The intersection of climate science and business has never been more critical. Climate change has far-reaching implications for the global economy including:
Underwriting insurance and reinsurance
Required Disclosures for securities and organizations
Operating the global supply chain
Assessing corporate risk
Pricing commodities and risk transfer
Banking and Lending
Investment in societal infrastructure
Operating the energy grid
Household finances and employment
Innovation and entrepreneurship
Recognizing the urgency of these issues, the American Meteorological Society (AMS) is proud to present the Baltimore Forum on Climate Linked Economics, set to take place as part of the 104th AMS Annual Meeting from January 29 to February 1, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Our Forum will accelerate the dialogue between the scientific community and the broader spectrum of economists, corporate leaders, risk managers, financial planners, insurance experts, technology pioneers, and policymakers. Our overarching goal is to forge a connection between these seemingly distinct worlds and harness their collective expertise to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
Partners and Keynote Speakers
The Baltimore Forum has already gathered support from a host of influential partners.
We will host notable private sector contributors such as Jupiter Intelligence, PricewaterhouseCoopers, First Street Foundation, Everstream Analytics, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Bloomberg. These industry giants recognize the significance of Climate Linked Economics and will actively lead our conversation in Baltimore.

On the federal front, key partners such as NOAA, NIST, EPA, NSF, NREL, the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) will also be leading sessions that underscore the government's contributions to addressing climate-linked economic challenges.
The academic sector is also well-represented, featuring institutions such as Scripps at UC San Diego, the University of Connecticut, Texas A&M, the University of Arizona, the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and National Taiwan University.
Presidential Spotlight, Invited Keynotes, Panel Discussions
An important feature of the Baltimore Forum on Climate Linked Economics will be the AMS Presidential Session. During this session, we anticipate the participation of a distinguished member of the Biden Administration (details to be announced later) in a captivating "fireside chat" dedicated to the launch of the Fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5). Additionally, we will delve into the broader climate-related priorities of the Biden Administration, exploring their commitments to scientific research and development in the realm of global change. This discussion will encompass new initiatives aimed at enhancing coordination in climate services.
Our program will also showcase a range of engaging sessions, including keynote presentations, thought-provoking panel discussions, and interactive workshops. These sessions will cover a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from the intricacies of banking regulation in the context of climate change to the unique challenges faced by insurance markets due to climate-related factors, as well as the pressing issue of wildfire threats originating from the energy grid. Our aim is to provide an in-depth exploration of the critical economic issues linked to climate change.
