Extreme weather is not a rare disruption—it’s a persistent and growing force in our economy. Shifts in weather variability are affecting everything from insurance and real estate to agriculture, energy, and supply chains. And yet, many of our financial systems—from pricing risk to planning infrastructure—still rely on assumptions based on yesterday’s weather patterns, not today’s realities nor tomorrow’s extremes.
That’s why we’re convening the Forum on Climate Linked Economics: To close the gap between the science of weather and the mechanics of business and the economy.
We’re doing this to:
Connect weather science to financial decision-making: We bring together meteorologists, economists, modelers, investors, and business practitioners to build a common language around how trends in weather are reshaping financial risk.
Highlight tools for managing volatility: From subseasonal forecasts to catastrophe models to innovative financial products, we surface actionable approaches aimed at navigating rising weather-driven volatility.
Draw attention to underappreciated risks: Whether it’s severe convective storms, heat-driven migration, or flood-related mortgage defaults, many of the most disruptive trends in weather are still underrepresented in traditional risk models.
Build future-ready systems—and people: This Forum is also about investing in the next generation of leaders working at the intersection of weather and economics, helping them bring science, data, and pragmatic solutions into boardrooms and policy circles.
Put simply:
The financial impacts of extreme weather are already here—and growing.
Adapting to that reality requires not just new models, but new mindsets. And that starts with bringing the right people into the same room.
